Aspirant: First Playtest

The King Proclaims Himself Dead, Long Live the King.

Come ye Aspirants in your tin and silver crowns from every corner of the world. The king’s throne belongs to whomever climbs that mountain of hubris, and his crown belongs to he that cleaves it from Cyprian’s brow. This world is yours, should you only aspire to take it.

Aspirant is a souls-like TTRPG system focusing on action and reaction that puts player decisions first and dice rolls second. Players take on the role of Aspirants, whose thin and distant royal blood gives them the right to enter the continent-sized fehlberg castle of Mar Abator and challenge mad king Cyprian for his crown.

But Aspirant is far from finished, and our mad scribblings could be well improved by any criticisms or comments you're willing to give. The following playtest document introduces Aspirant's core game rules and combat mechanics, along with 4 prebuilt Aspirants and a short introductory adventure.

We want to playtest the heck out of this system before the full launch and Kickstarter. We invite you to try the playtest out for yourself, and tell us what you think by following the included Discord link.
